Getting decent open rates is a crucial element in permissions based email marketing. If people don’t open your emails I can just about promise you that they will not buy your stuff. This is why Optimizing your open rate on emails is essential.
Building a huge list is awesome, that goes without saying, but having a list (Giant or Otherwise) does not ensure your success. You need to build a relationship with your list and this is done through emails. The puzzle gets complex when you get into improving your “Open Rate” on emails. Now, you might think that there is a general percentage that every marketer should strive for with regards to getting their emails opened but, that is absolutely not the case. Every list has a personality and what is true for one may not be true for another. So, when it comes to finding the ideal open rate for your emails here is what I suggest. Take a look at an email that you’ve sent that has the highest open rate and then model it. See if you can beat it. If you do, then try to beat it again. email Marketing is about many things, but top among them is setting goals and breaking them. In order to do this it is absolutely crucial that you track everything. I have to say, there is no “right way” to do any of this stuff. Some ways are just more effective than others. When it comes to improving your open rates you’re best bet is to compete with yourself, be engaging and every once in a while try something totally wacky and see what happens.

Greg Jarboe, SEO-PR, interviews George Revutsky, CEO, MyNextCustomer. George talks about the origins of his company, MyNextCustomer.com, why it was created and later shows examples of how his company’s software works using his iPad.
